Hey Bookworms!! It has been a long time since I did a discussion post and well out of random , I was planning my next read and this discussion post idea came into existence . I wouldn’t even consider it much of a discussion post but rather a rambling on my part about my Reading Habit, going Book-Blind.

I’m sort of a “read a synopsis once and done” kind of girl. Usually when I’m adding books to Goodreads or my TBR or my bookshelves, I read the synopsis (of course) to see if I’m interested and then don’t really read it again… maybe ever. (saves loads of time )

However I decide to pick a book, one thing is for sure — I don’t pick it based on synopsis.
I usually don’t read the blurb again until after I finish a book (or during if I’m starting to feel like the book is taking a weird turn) or when I start writing my review. It may seem crazy to some but I love going into books blind. Why, you ask? Because I love discovering every little surprise and secret the way the author intended. I know that sometimes blurbs or synopses have to include some minor plot points in order to get that hook out to readers to get them interested so I like to totally forget the specifics of a blurb by the time I pick up a book to read!
It may not seem like much but I’ve discovered big surprises within the first quarter of a book which can often times be given away because that’s the first big twist in a story to get the reader invested in the book… But if I’m familiar with the blurb and then go to pick up the book, that’s no longer a surprise for me. It may not seem like a big deal but I find a book so much more enjoyable when I’m able to discover those things for myself. Big twists and surprises really enhance my reading experience and I often bump up ratings because of a good twist at the end of a book or a surprising moment that I just really didn’t see coming. Of course, going in blind does have its drawbacks sometimes. Though I haven’t found them yet . (feel free to add your views.)
Thankfully, I haven’t had many bad or frustrating experiences but not fully knowing every detail about a book’s plot before I start it. Going in blind almost always enhances my reading experience because I’m a TOTAL spoiler-avoider and even those little twists make a big difference!

Do you go book blind ? Let’s Chat in the comments Section . Feel free to add your thoughts and opinions.
I definitely end up going in blind, buy a book I like the sound of don’t read it for months then randomly pick it up and loosely have an idea of what it’s about 🤷🏻♀️😂

Yes I sometimes go blind. In fact I’m also like you. If I have read I might have forgotten by the time I pick the book and only read again after I finish the book to write review. I have discovered many surprises and I tend to enjoy book more by going in blind. It’s because I go into it without any expectations. Great post!

I used to be the type of reader that read the synopsis several times, searched for many reviews, and resorted to YouTube to find out even more about the book. Though, I don’t do much of that anymore😂
Recently, I find myself going into books blind, and I avoid any kind of spoilers like the plague. I think I enjoy a story even more if I don’t know ANYTHING about it. What I do now is that if I find a book I’m interested in, I skim through the synopsis so that I just have a vague idea what it’s about. Though, I only do this for new to me authors or books I know nothing about. I prefer going in completely blind into book by authors I love or have read before.

I go in blind too. I often found that blurbs were misleading and eventually gave them up. Sometimes they gave too much away too. I rarely read a synopsis either these days. If I am looking in a bookshop I trust my instinct to keep me right and it usually does. Not so easy on line.

Ooh this post is really interesting! I rarely go in blind because I vet books so intensively before adding to my TBR, but I get what you mean about wanting to be as surprised by the book as possible (I definitely add stars for epic twists!). These days I often find the blurbs (especially for fantasy novels) are getting longer and longer and I’m a bit like…does it *really* need to have this much information in the synopsis?? 😂 Great post!

can’t agree with you more on the fantasy books aspect as there is suddenly like too much on the cards and well reading is more fun when it is adventure 🍕❤

I am the exact same way. I usually will read a synopsis when I’ve first been introduced to a book and if it likes my interest I will add it to my want to read shelf in Goodreads where it will probably sit for years before I actually read it. When I finally pick up a book to read I don’t reread the synopsis until after I’ve finished it if even then.

I go in blind aswell! Just like you, most of the times I read the synopsis once and then basically never again until I finish the book 😂

An interesting concept. I will go book blind for certain authors I love, unless they warn me off that it is a genre I don’t read.

I’ll usually read the synopsis , especially if I’m planning on buying the book. Sometimes though if I’ve just heard about a book constantly, I’ll just cave and pick it up without reading anything about it.

After thinking about it? I do this too! Not consciously though hahaha, I just read the synopsis/blurb when I pick it up and then after that I tend to remember the gist and just go off of the cover. But it’s not steered me too far wrong yet!
