HEY BOOKWORMS. This week had been a thriller week and I read two thriller reads. Sometimes you get in the mood for a little suspense, and there’s no better way to scratch that itch than with a killer book—literally. Thrillers never fail to get your heart pumping, getting you turning the page at warp speed while also delivering an oddly satisfying uneasiness about what’s to come.
Lock Every Door – Riley Sager
My Rating – 4 Stars
My Plot – No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan’s most high-profile and mysterious buildings. Recently heartbroken and just plain broke, Jules is taken in by the splendor of her surroundings and accepts the terms, ready to leave her past life behind. As she gets to know the residents and staff of the Bartholomew, Jules finds herself drawn to fellow apartment sitter Ingrid, who comfortingly, disturbingly reminds her of the sister she lost eight years ago. When Ingrid confides that the Bartholomew is not what it seems and the dark history hidden beneath its gleaming facade is starting to frighten her, Jules brushes it off as a harmless ghost story—until the next day, when Ingrid disappears.Searching for the truth about Ingrid’s disappearance, Jules digs deeper into the Bartholomew’s dark past and into the secrets kept within its walls. Her discovery that Ingrid is not the first apartment sitter to go missing at the Bartholomew pits Jules against the clock as she races to unmask a killer, expose the building’s hidden past, and escape the Bartholomew before her temporary status becomes permanent.
My Thoughts – Who is Jules, you might ask? She is the ever so curious protagonist who becomes an amateur sleuth when her stay at the ever so famous Bartholomew Apartment building begins to uncover its unsettling past. The buildings deep, dark secrets begin to surface, bubbling over. It’s Gothic structure is over a hundred-years old and some disturbing articles have been written about it. The story is pretty entertaining and unpredictable . There is this constant fear while reading the book . I went book blind during reading this book. It was really fun going book blind you get the unexpected . BRILLIANT, SHOWSTOPPING, JUST WHAT I NEEDED!
In a Dark Dark Wood – Ruth Ware
My Rating – 3.5 Stars
Plot – Nora hasn’t seen Clare for ten years. Not since Nora walked out of school one day and never went back. There was a dark, dark house.Until, out of the blue, an invitation to Clare’s hen do arrives. Is this a chance for Nora to finally put her past behind her?And in the dark, dark house there was a dark, dark room. But something goes wrong. Very wrong. And in the dark, dark room….Some things can’t stay secret for ever.
My Thoughts – But the story didn’t really meet my expectations. I’m giving it a okay nod , but it is a three point five. it is an incredibly fast read, and if you are looking for something in that vein – a fast-paced page-turner mystery thing, this may well satisfy you. but be forewarned it is not a creepy book, or even remotely spooky, the story could have been nuch better . But nevertheless Ruth Ware has a beautiful writing tone and that compensates. The book is certainly a page turner , no doubt. This was an entertaining read. I found the glass house in the dark, isolated woods an eerie setting for this story. And I was curious to find out what was going to happen next and who the murderer was. An enjoyable, atmospheric read with secrets from the past, mystery, and suspense.

I don’t read a lot if thrillers, but “Lock Every Door” sounds like it’s super atmospheric. Also, sounds kind of relatable to me? I house sat in a rich house one time and they can totally give off creepy vibes when there’s no other people around. Lol
