Hey Bookworms !! Probably the hardest part about writing a book is how to start a story in the first place. The First lines have a huge impact on the readers . The beginning of it carries the daunting task of hooking the prospective reader in and has a very brief window of time to do so. So Here are my top 5 opening lines .
Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.- From Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling
“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”- Pride and Prejudice – Jane Austen
“The way I figure it, everyone gets a miracle.” –Paper Towns by John Green
“Everyone thinks it was because of snow. “- If I Stay- Gayle Forman
“Christmas won’t be Christmas without any presents,” grumbled Jo, lying on the rug.”-Little Women, Louisa May Alcott
“It’s midnight, it’s sweltering, and I might be high on Vicodin, but that guy—that guy right over there—that’s him. The him.”– Isla and the Happily Ever After, by Stephanie Perkins
Have you read any of them ? Do you love the first line of the books you read or you are one of those people who judge the book by its cover ? Any recommendations for me ? Let’s chat in the comments section
I don’t judge books by their cover or indeed by their introductory lines. If it’s a new author, I’ll read the synopsis and then read a few pages from somewhere in the book and, if it grabs me, I’ll buy it. It’s always fun discovering new authors, particularly if they have a back catalogue to trawl through.

I love the opening lines from Harry Potter and Pride and Prejudice! I do judge books by their cover (no matter how many times I hear “don’t judge a book by it’s cover”) but most of the time I read the blurb or even read some reviews to figure out if I’ll like it or not (although, yes, covers often play an important part)!

I don’t judge a book by it’s cover. I do, however, love a first line that grabs me firmly or gently takes my hand and pulls me into the story.
I have mad love for JK Rowling, Jane Austin, and Ms. Alcott. Now I want to read PAPER TOWNS BY JOHN GREEN and ISLA AND THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER, BY STEPHANIE PERKINS.
thank you

I have read Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Little Women and Pride and Prejudice….. They all have great opening lines…. But it isn’t right to judge a book by its opening line….. If we delve deeper into the book, we may find it interesting!!!! Although the opening lines can be pretty dull….
