PLOT:Everyone knows what happens in the end. A mermaid, a prince, a true love’s kiss. But before that young siren’s tale, there were three friends. One feared, one royal, and one already dead.Ever since her best friend, Anna, drowned, Evie has been an outcast in her small fishing town. A freak. A curse. A witch. A girl with an uncanny resemblance to Anna appears offshore and, though the girl denies it, Evie is convinced that her best friend actually survived. That her own magic wasn’t so powerless after all. And, as the two girls catch the eyes—and hearts—of two charming princes, Evie believes that she might finally have a chance at her own happily ever after.
But her new friend has secrets of her own. She can’t stay in Havnestad, or on two legs, unless Evie finds a way to help her. Now Evie will do anything to save her friend’s humanity, along with her prince’s heart—harnessing the power of her magic, her ocean, and her love until she discovers, too late, the truth of her bargain.

“Though magic can shape life and death, love is the one thing it cannot control”

When I saw that this was Ursula’s story before The Little Mermaid, I knew I had to read it and I was surely not disappointed. Though I expected a Dark Fantasy novel ,there was nothing of that sort .It was story going on a snail speed but still keeping the momentum through last hundred pages. I was pleasantly surprised and happy about the Set -Up of Denmark with lots of history refrences thrown here and there. In those days Witches were burnt away and book captures those real events in the storyline.

The main character, Evie is hated by her town folks for being friends with the Crown Prince , Nik and his cousin ,Iker .But her true identity of being a witch is hidden who conjure magic on the ocean every single day. One day she meets a girl who resembles her dead best friend,Anna. What follows is mysteries, secrets , truths unravelling and so much more. In this book you have to expect the unexpected , as it’s not a retelling of Little Mermaid but a back story of the iconic Disney Villain , Ursula.

I really enjoyed this book inspite of it’s minor shortcomings as I could connect with Evie and her best friend , Nik (who was a adorable guy). The book is delight if you continue reading till the end.

I particularly enjoyed the review of The Sea Witch by Angelica. Feel free to read her review here.
