Plot:Simon Snow is the worst Chosen One who’s ever been chosen. That’s what his roommate, Baz, says. And Baz might be evil and a vampire and a complete git, but he’s probably right.Half the time, Simon can’t even make his wand work, and the other half, he starts something on fire. His mentor’s avoiding him, his girlfriend broke up with him, and there’s a magic-eating monster running around, wearing Simon’s face. Baz would be having a field day with all this, if he were here — it’s their last year at the Watford School of Magicks, and Simon’s infuriating nemesis didn’t even bother to show up.
Carry On – The Rise and Fall of Simon Snow is a ghost story, a love story and a mystery. It has just as much kissing and talking as you’d expect from a Rainbow Rowell story – but far, far more monsters.
Simon SNOW is the chosen one and he is supposed to save the magical worlds . But Simon never knew his fate until he comes to magical Watford ,The school of Magicks . He is supposed to save the world from Humdrum. He meets Penelope and they turn out to be best friends. Does the story strike you as similar to Harry Potter. Yes, it is but there is so much more in the story. Simon Snow was a fictional character in Rainbow Rowell’s other book, Fangirl and Cath adored Simon and Baz and the World Of Mages and spends much of her time writing fan fiction. I absolutely LOVED reading Fangirl(it is actually one of my Favorite books) so I had to give this story a try.
I was introduced to the characters in Fangirl itself and I liked reading the snippets of Simon’s story present after every chapter. So, in a way I already knew about them. But I regret to say that even though I read Fangirl two years ago, it took me two years to finally read it. And I absolutely devoured it as it was so amazing.
So it’s Simon’s last year at Watford and even though he and Baz are archnemises they come together to find the people behind the death of Baz’ s mother. And they fall headlong into an adventure along with Penelope. A lot of secrets are unravelled about Humdrum(he reminds me of Voldemort). I won’t go much in detail as I don’t want to spoil the story . Rainbow Rowell uses hate-to-love trope in the story as Simon and Baz fall for each other.
This book is told in multiple POV’s but not once did I feel it was confusing rather it added depth to the story and gave us a very complete picture.
I am so glad Rainbow Rowell is writing a sequel. This book deserves a sequel as there are lots of loose ends that need to tied up satisfactorily.
The Author states that she has loved a lot of Chosen One stories and it is her take on this kind of character. I would recommend it anybody who loves Young Adult fiction and Rainbow Rowell(obviously).
I LOVE this book! Fangirl is one of my favourite books of all time, and this is literally a book within that books. And it doesn’t hurt that I really ship Simon and Baz as much as Cath does! And it’s a book about magic, what more can you want! Haha!

Fangirl is one of my favorite books of all time too, I just love it so much, and I reread the good portions whenever I like. I think the reason I like Rainbow Rowell so much is that her writing is totally phenomenal (kinda like watching a movie). I so loved Carry On too and it has already got a prominent place in my heart !

It really is like a movie! I find that I really relate to Rowell’s characters unlike any other book I’ve read, Fangirl in particular! And I used to write fanfiction as well so I really loved Carry On ☺️

I had this book for quite a while, but never realised what exactly it was about. I bought it because i loved Eleanor & Park, so i figured i’ll read more by R. Rowell.
I have Fangirl too. I guess i’ll start with that one 😀

I honestly used to think the multiple POVs were a little extra, but after a few rereads, I agree. It truly adds depths to the story, especially Agatha’s POV.

Penelope was such an interesting character! I loved how there was no silly love triangle between her, Simon, and… Agatha? Baz?
