Plot:Classic movie fan Bailey “Mink” Rydell has spent months crushing on a witty film geek she only knows online as Alex. Two coasts separate the teens until Bailey moves in with her dad, who lives in the same California surfing town as her online crush.Faced with doubts (what if he’s a creep in real life—or worse?), Bailey doesn’t tell Alex she’s moved to his hometown. Or that she’s landed a job at the local tourist-trap museum. Or that she’s being heckled daily by the irritatingly hot museum security guard, Porter Roth—a.k.a. her new archnemesis. But life is a whole lot messier than the movies, especially when Bailey discovers that tricky fine line between hate, love, and whatever it is she’s starting to feel for Porter. And as the summer months go by, Bailey must choose whether to cling to a dreamy online fantasy in Alex or take a risk on an imperfect reality with Porter.
When I joined blogging , that was last year , Alex Approximately was one of the few books that I was seeing everywhere . I even requested the ARC then but since I was a new blogger , I did not receive the ARC.
But 2018 turned out on my favor and I was delighted to read this beautiful book just in the right time . Thus book is a perfect Beach read and ideal for summer. It was just what I expected from the story though the story was predictable and cliche at times yet it was enjoyable and engrossing read . I mean I finished the book in a day . Well if I discuss the plot setup , Alex and Mink are teens and film buffs who have been chatting since months . They are kind of soul mates but they haven’t met once but when Mink moves to the Alex’s town ,she is for the unexpected. As Bailey (aka Mink ) starts her Summer job at the museum . Her life turns upside down when Porter ,her arch nemises creates a point to make her life hell . The crazy turn is that Bailey falls for Porter .
Now the story reminds me of the movie “You’ve got Mail “ . I recently watched it on Amazon prime and I could see a lot of similarity .The Author has certainly taken a lot of inspiration from the movie and moulded it into her story.
The book also has tons of reference of classic Hollywood movies and I totally loved them . Every chapter does begin with a dialogue from a film.
The story at times gets predictable but the author makes it a point to get us hooked to the story for sure. Though sometimes I was annoyed at Bailey as she was so stupid. She could have easily guessed Alex as tons of hints were given but she does not .
Well Alex(Porter) was a amazing character, surfer ,handsome and mature. I couldn’t have asked for more.
This book is perfect for Summer as the story is set in a small town in California . A funny,YA Beach read .
Awesome post. Loved it ❤️

No I haven’t read it yet but it’s on my TBR wishlist! I don’t remember a lot about the movie You’ve Got Mail so it would be great if this book would jog my memory :-).

I watched You’ve got Mail before reading the book and I loved both of them. You should definitely read the book soon, preferably in summer itself .

Nice to see how you saw similarities with that movie, Priyasha! Lovely review. By the way, is it normal that the review is copy-pasted twice, back to back, in this post? 😮 😮

I love “you’ve got mail” and it’s older counterpart “the shop around the corner”! 💖 I’m also a big fan of the hate to love trope. I’ll have to read this one.
