Plot :Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isn’t in the mood for Italy’s famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. She’s only there because it was her mother’s dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isn’t around for sixteen years? All Lina wants to do is get back home. But then she is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina’s uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires Lina, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother’s footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept for far too long. It’s a secret that will change everything she knew about her mother, her father—and even herself.

Recently I read The Summer of Us and it was a beautiful travel YA and as I was infested by the travel bug I wanted to read more of the same kind of Books and then my sister found this book and I was totally mesmerized by the story .

“You know, people come to Italy for all sorts of reasons, but when they sat, it’s for the same two things.”
“What?”
“Love and gelato. “

I buddy read this book along with my blogging friend Chhavi and we both enjoyed it a lot . You should definitely check out her blog , as it’s amazing . Well we both enjoyed this beautiful book .

It’s Lina’s story. Her mother had died 6 months ago of cancer and she visits Italy in her Summer Holidays to meet her father for the the first time as she had made a promise to her mother.I won’t go much in the detail of the story as I don’t want to spoil it for you all . But then she finds her mother’s journal which she wrote as photography student in Italy and then she is questioning all sorts of things like why her mother never told her about Howard, her father , etc. I really enjoyed reading the journal as Lina read it. She has lots of unanswered questions and the journal answers them and also raises some of its own.

She explores Italy with her mom’s journal and her exploration of Italy is the best part . There is lot of in-depth knowledge as the author writes from her own experience. Lina explores Italy with Ren. I am totally in love with the Ren(Lorenzo ,her cute neighbor) . He was too good to be true and such a nice sidekick. Her mom’s journal was a delight to read . I also liked that though Lina’ s mom dies its not a grief story.

Plus we find Lina to be a mature kind of girl. This book was hilarious at times and lots of travel in Florence ,we visited so many awesome places through the book .( I am adding Florence to my bucket list ) . Also I want to eat Gelato because of this book.

Gelato craving is on.

Overall ,this book was a beautiful, engaging read ,a read -in -one -sitting of First Love, Gelato and Italy. I would recommend it to everyone who wants something summery and light, with doses of fun and a little poignancy. Perfect for a beach read. After reading this book, I totally want to read Love and Luck(companion novel) which has recently been released.

  1. I loved this book and it made me want to travel to Italy so bad! I recently finished Love & Luck and while I didn’t like it as much as this one, it was still enjoyable!

  2. This book is definitely on my to be read list! I do love the premise, and it sounds like a perfect summer read with a ‘vacation’ thrown into the plot.
